Today we will go on adventure among the famous wax palms and explore more of coffee culture.
After a private transfer to Salento we’ll hop on an immaculate old Willy´s jeep and wind our way through scenic Valle del Cocora, a valley that is famous for its supply of the national tree, the wax palm. We then have the opportunity to take in some mountain air and stroll up the foothills of the Andes before we head back to Salento.
Set against beautiful green mountains, the small coffee town of Salento is soaked in traditional charm. Colourful homes with shaded patios line its quaint streets, and cafes serving locally produced arabica open onto its small squares. The saloons are full of locals in straw trilbies and ponchos drinking 'aguardiente', the town's tipple of choice, a kind of sugar cane brandy.
We’ll walk down Calle Real and its many 'artesanias' (local craft stalls), as well as restaurants. For lunch, why not try the traditional grilled trout that is fished here, served on a very thin plantain crisp.
At the end of the Calle Real is a staircase that takes us up to Alto de la Cruz, a hill topped with a cross. Here we can enjoy fantastic views of the Valle de Cocora and its surrounding cordillera of Andean mountains. If there is a clear sky, we might spot the snow-capped volcanoes teetering behind on the horizon.
We will get the opportunity to plant our own wax palm in the Cocora Valley and connect with nature on a deeper level. This unique, sustainable activity allows us to contribute to responsible tourism and leave a lasting positive impact on this breathtaking landscape. The wax palm, Colombia's national tree, will be a symbol of our commitment to preserving this special place.

We'll conclude our journey on the main road, with a short 3 km ascent that will take us back to Salento. In the town, we'll wrap up our adventurous day with a truly exceptional coffee tasting, accompanied by a light and delicious snack.

Much of the gold and various treasures plundered by the conquistadores throughout Latin America passed through Cartagena on its way back to Spain, making Cartagena one of the wealthiest and most important cities in the New World at the time.
Today, during our walking tour of Cartagena, we we’ll visit the convent and church of San Pedro Claver. The convent, formerly called San Ignacio de Loyola, was founded by Jesuits. This museum shows the religious architecture and house where the patron Saint Peter Claver lived and died, who was also called ‘Slave of the Slaves’. On the second floor of the exhibition is the Afro-Caribbean Museum, representative sample of Colombia’s ancestors and their culture.
We'll enjoy lunch at the Nacar Hotel, followed by a brief inspection of the property.
After our tour we will get to learn that coconuts aren't just for drinks and food - they're also a source of beautiful handicrafts - as we visit the Damartes project (Dramas y Madres del Arte). This is a micro-enterprise formed by seven women, who today, generate their own income by creating jewellery, vases, containers, belts and other accessories using coconuts.
The Damartes’ stories are inspiring: they are mothers and grandmothers who share their life experiences with pride. Their bond with one another has empowered them. When we meet these ladies we’ll be invited to a special, authentic workshop held in a charming rustic restaurant by the beach. After an introduction, it's time to get hands-on! We will create our own unique souvenirs and support a worthy cause. We can choose to craft a bracelet, keychain, necklace, or other keepsake alongside the Damartes, which will serve as a tangible reminder of this heartwarming project.
Later in the day we discover more of the magic of La Boquilla. This picturesque fishing village, rooted in more than 200 years of history, awaits to share its heroic cultural resistance struggle. Here, drums are not just instruments, but the guardians of ancient traditions that beat to the rhythm of the community's heart. But that's not all: we will dance and sing in ancestral dances that will make us vibrate to the rhythm of tradition!
We’ll participate in a ceremony under the stars; the Bullerengue Circle is more than a dance: it is a deep connection with the land, an opportunity to appreciate the moon, value the sea, enjoy the breeze and, above all, celebrate life by dancing and singing.
The grand finale is a ritual of gratitude to the drums, which unites us with tradition and fills us with energy and joy. We will be guided by an expert in art and culture. Luis Eduardo Gómez Leal, a master in Performing Arts and passionate about traditional culture. With vast experience in Afro-Caribbean dance and cultural leadership, Luis Eduardo will take us on a path of discovery and passion for art and tradition.

Today will offer us another chance to witness a different vista of Colombia as we once again set off overland on a 6hr drive to Tayrona National Park.
On our way we will take some time to explore the historic town of Ciénaga, a town steeped in history and cultural significance. We will explore its charming colonial architecture, wander through vibrant local markets, and discover the stories behind its bustling port. We'll learn about Ciénaga's crucial role in the region's banana industry and its connection to the legendary Gabriel García Márquez, whose works often drew inspiration from this enchanting place.
Overnight: Hotel Villa Maria

Today we will visit Tayrona Natural Park, one of Colombia’s most popular national parks, and a veritable paradise on earth. Tayrona National Park, or ‘El Tayrona’, hugs the beautiful Caribbean coast and is hemmed in by the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range (the highest coastal mountains in the world). Spanning 15,000 hectares, Tayrona National Park is one of Colombia's most important natural reserves. We’ll embark on an eco-trek in Cañaveral through lush rainforest to reach stunning landscapes and experience the thrill of powerful waves while we continue our adventure to Cabo San Juan, a serene cove with calm waters.
Our adventure begins with a short drive from our hotel to the Zaino entrance. After entering the park, we'll continue for 10 minutes by vehicle to the trailhead. From here, we will embark on a hike to the stunning Cabo San Juan, divided as follows:
Cañaveral Car Park to Arrecifes: A one to one-and-a-half hour hike with varying terrain, including ups and downs, in a beautiful natural environment, that leads to Arrecifes area. Swimming is unfortunately prohibited due to strong currents.
Arrecifes - La Piscina: Enjoy a more leisurely, easy 45 minute walk along the beach to La Piscina Natural.
La Piscina - Cabo San Juan: A moderately challenging 30-minute hike, with some ups and downs, takes us to Cabo San Juan, where we can spend a couple of hours relaxing on the beach.
Afterwards we will hike back to the transport and return to the hotel.
Note: The walk to Cabo San Juan in Tayrona National Park is a 14 kilometers out-and-back trail, meaning we will walk seven kilometers to reach Cabo San Juan and then return the same way; while considered moderately challenging, the average completion time is five hours, though it may take longer depending on your pace and fitness level.
Overnight: Hotel Villa Maria
Included meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
After a one hour transfer and flight we’ll arrive in Bogota and have the chance to explore the cobbled streets of La Candelaria, Bogotá's historic centre. This charming neighborhood is a treasure trove of colonial architecture, vibrant street art and cultural landmarks. Discover trendy cafes and bars tucked away in multi-colored colonial buildings, where you can savor Colombian coffee or sip on a refreshing cocktail. Here street musicians fill the air with melodies and locals go about their daily lives.
We won’t want to miss the central Plaza de Bolivar, the heart of La Candelaria and a hub of activity. The square is surrounded by impressive buildings, including the city hall, houses of congress, supreme court, and the majestic Catedral Primada. Take a moment to appreciate the grandeur of these architectural gems and learn about their historical significance. The Plaza de Bolivar is also a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike, so we can take some time to people-watch and soak up the vibrant atmosphere.
Another famous activity in Bogota is the climb to Cerro de Monserrate, the Andean peak that towers over Bogotá, its slopes beginning at the edge of La Candelaria district and ascending to 3152 metres above sea level. At the top of the hill (cerro) is the Sanctuary of Saint Christ Fallen, a major pilgrimage destination due to the various miracles that have been attributed to its altar statue.
The spot has been associated with Christian worship since the 1620s, although it was not until the 1650s that the first sanctuary was built, originally in the name of Monserrate’s Morena Virgin (near Barcelona) thus endowing the hill with its name. In 1917 an earthquake damaged the sanctuary, meaning construction of a new basilica started that year. Pilgrims were encouraged to help with the construction by each carrying at least one brick up to the summit with them on their visit.
We will either ride the funicular Monserrate train or take the seven minute cable-car straight to the top. When we reach the summit, we can enjoy the panoramic views across the green Bogotá Sabana below - a great way to end our Bogotá city tour.
After exploring Bogota and enjoying a final late lunch together we will head to the airport for our flight home.
